Method

Mission 1

Go talk to Commander Kruge, located on the second floor of the church in Kastah.
Ask him for a 'mission' and let him know you wish to join the militia. He will send you down to the Kastah Sewer to deal with some bandits who are disrupting the water supply for the city.
Bring a Pick with you and head down to the sewers. Locate four stones as indicated by the image below. Use the pick on them to destroy them.
When you use a Pick on the stones you seem to have a 50% of breaking it which will give you the text: The stone broke in half.
If you fail to break the stone, you have a chance to spawn some Bandit or Smuggler and see the text: The stone is still intact.

Once all four stones has been destroyed, return to Commander Kruge.
